Recovery Update

It has been 6 weeks since Greyson's surgery and he is doing great (although he was sick last week when I was out of town). His incision has healed up very well and most of the swelling has gone down. Dr. Jiang is extremely happy with the results and thinks that Dr. Rivard, the radiologist, may or may not have some larger cysts to scleros sometime after summer. Dr. Jiang and Dr. Rast will do another surgery in a year or so to work to get more of the tissue out and contour the front of his shoulder.
Greyson had an appointment today to pick up and check the fitting on his compression suit and glove (we are calling it his "Under Armour"). The Occupational Therapist was very happy with the fit and will make some minor adjustments and order another set on Monday if we are happy with it after a couple of days. The fit is very snug and a challenge to pull on (think putting on pantyhose right after getting out of the pool) but as long as he will tolerate it we will keep it on 24/7. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it but we have noticed that he is using his right hand a bit less as he is getting used to it.

See the Gallery for some new pictures from the last month.

Little Rock Marathon Goals

For my last post before the marathon on Sunday I thought it might be time to formally share my race goals. Usually I set 3 goals for a race..... a "that would be awesome" an "I would love it" and an "I would be happy with" goal. This time I am going to try similar but new that I saw on one of the blogs that I follow It's Just One Foot in Front of the Other. Thanks Shelly!!!

My: I Finished Goal -have fun running with my sister and carry home the heaviest finishers medal around reminding myself that this is my first marathon back after baby (C-Section)

My: I Can Goal - have fun running with my sister and finish in 4:25 (my first marathon time)

My: I Love It Goal - have fun running with my sister and make it in by 4:15 (it's gonna be a hilly one)

My: I Dream It Goal - have fun running with my sister and make 4 hours...but the stars would have to align (I didn't really train for that).

Why Wednesday - All Thumbs

Why does a runner need an opposable thumb? (a top 10 list)

10. pull on compression tights
9. pull bra top on/off
8. tying shoes
7. zip jacket
6. put on gloves
5. get gum out of package
4. rip open Clif Bloks
3. get cap off chap-stick
2. squeeze water bottle
1. using iPhone (virtually impossible with band-aid on thumb)

FYI - tried to grate (think cheese grater) off the end of my thumb the other day when making dinner. Knew it would make everyday jobs challenging but didn't think it could make running more difficult ;-)

Marathon Update = ran 5 Monday, 6 today, 2 tomorrow, and MARATHON SUNDAY :) Yipeeee
